Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has been quietly working behind the scenes to remove President Joe Biden from the top of the 2024 Democratic presidential ticket after his disastrous debate performance last month, according to a report from Politico.
The outlet reported that Pelosi has become convinced that Biden will lose against Trump that she has started “working the phones” in “hopes of finding a way to ease [Biden] off the ticket.”
She has become more public with efforts according to the outlet as she was seen “chatting furtively but openly” with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) in a corner of the House Democratic cloakroom last week.
Pelosi, a close ally of Biden’s, has also been telling former elected officials that Biden’s legacy “can’t be destroying their party,” Politico reported.
Democratic lawmakers have been calling for Biden to dropout of the 2024 preside dial race after his shaky debate performance raised concerns about his cognitive abilities and chances of finishing a second term.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe last week, Pelosi suggested that Biden should bow out.
