Pelosi says Trump 'projects' his own blame for Jan. 6 onto others: "There is a sickness there"

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) fired back at Donald Trump after he blamed her for the Jan. 6 attack at been Capitol on Sunday.

“The former occupant of the White House has always been about projection,” Pelosi told MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart.  “His instigation of an insurrection, the assault on the Capitol building, the assault on the Constitution, the assault on our democracy, shame on him. However he always projects.”

Pelosi’s comments came after Trump’s interview with Meet the Press‘ host Kristen Wekler aired on Sunday. In the interview Trump laid the blame for the violence on Pelosi. Trump claimed that he had requested 10,000 National Guard troops to defend the US Capitol that day but then-Speaker Pelosi reject them.

“She’s responsible for January 6th. Nancy Pelosi is responsible,” Trump said, adding that Pelosi was “in charge of security.”

There is no record to show that Trump gave that order and he never called for troops to be sent to the Capitol during the insurrection either. It was actually Pelosi who was seen calling for security reinforcement to be sent to the Capitol as Trump supporters stormed the building.

“Chuck Schumer and I begged him to send the troops again and again,” Pelosi said Sunday. “These Trumpites were attacking the Capitol, fighting the police, threatening my life and the life of the Vice President.”

“There is a sickness here and there has to be an intervention,” Pelosi added referring to Trump. “That intervention has to be the election, which we have to win, and that’s one of the reasons why I am running again, to fight for our democracy, which is at stake if he is on the ballot,” she added.
