A sheriff in Pennsylvania is facing backlash after posting a meme on social media appearing to support motorists running over protesters.
Adams County Sheriff James Muller, posted the meme on Facebook showing a pickup truck with red paint splattered on the hood, purported to be blood. The photo was captioned “The All New Dodge Ram Protester Edition.”
The post, which has been deleted, was shared on the weekend during nationwide ‘No Kings’ protests against the Donald Trump administration’s policies.
“The Adams County Board of Commissioners does not support, condone, or agree with any action, innuendo or statement that threatens or appears to support political violence in any form at any time,” The Adams County Board of Commissioners said in a statement.
“The elected office of Sheriff is constitutionally and personally mandated to uphold the law,” the board continued. “Any statement or action made by the sheriff that does not support that mandate, we regard as unacceptable.”
Muller has served as sheriff for more than 16 years and ran for re-election unopposed in recent cycles, according to a local ABC affiliate.
Muller’s post comes as other law enforcement officials made disturbing comments about handling protests ahead of the ‘No Kings’ rallies last weekend.
In Florida, Brevard County, Florida, Sheriff Wayne Ivey threatened to kill protesters who attack deputies.
“If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your families where to collect your remains at because we will kill you graveyard dead,” Ivey said, according to WFLA.
