The so-called ‘People’s Convoy’ that arrived at Hagerstown Speedway three weeks ago after traveling across the country to protest COVID-19 mandates, is calling it quits.
According to the Daily Beast, the convoy’s co-organizer Mike Landis announced Sunday night that the group would be heading back to California in the coming days after experiencing many freezing nights while camped out in Hagerstown, Maryland, just outside D.C.
The truckers reportedly welcomed the news. However, Landis pledged to return to the metro area to “finish this job” at a later date.
The convoy was protesting vaccine mandates and other pandemic restrictions. Organizers say they would have continued to protest until all coronavirus-related mandates have been lifted. But, even before they set out on their journey, some states had already lifted pandemic restrictions and others announced plans to do so. Additionally, the Supreme Court had struck down OSHA’s vaccine mandate for companies employing more than 100 people.
So, for three weeks the convoy only managed to circle the Beltway, harass commuters, injure residents and complain about frustrated Beltway commuters flipping them the bird.
