More than 80,000 people have signed a petition asking First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff to ‘restore Jackie Kennedy’s Rose Garden’ after Biden’s predecessor Melania Trump “replaced it with a boring tribute to herself.”
“In 2019, Melania Trump had the cherry trees, a gift from Japan, removed as well as the rest of the foliage and replaced with a boring tribute to herself,” the petition reads. “Jackie’s legacy was ripped away from Americans who remembered all that the Kennedy’s meant to us. We want Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff to take this on and restore the Rose Garden to Jackie’s original design.”
The White House unveiled the new Rose Garden during the coronavirus pandemic, and ahead of Melania Trump’s Republican National Convention speech on 25 August.
The petition is aiming for 150,000 signatures and as of Saturday morning had more than 80,000.
