A bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that was considered to be in poor condition, collapsed Friday morning hours before President Joe Biden’s visit to tout his infrastructure bill passed last November.
At least four vehicles were on the bridge on the outskirts of Frick Park when it collapsed. No injuries have been reported so far but there is a “strong smell of natural gas” by the collapsed bridge, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety. The public is being urged to avoid the area and police, firefighters and other emergency services are on the scene.
The bridge had been listed as being in “poor condition” by Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation.
The bridge collapse comes as President Biden is expected to visit Pittsburgh on Friday to tout his infrastructure bill that passed last November. The bill includes $1.6 billion to fix bridges in Pennsylvania.
