He still got it.
President Barack Obama is back on the campaign trail for Joe Biden making the case with his unique blend of intellect and charisma that reminded us why we fell in love with his candidacy in the first place.
His half an hour speech in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania on Wednesday was a blistering rebuke of Donald Trump.
It was a brutal point by point take down of Trump on a number of issues ranging from healthcare to his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his response to racial unrest, his unfitness for office and even the thing Trump cares about most, his TV ratings.
Sprinkled throughout President Obama’s speech were constant reminders to vote. Ignore the polls, don’t get too complacent, just vote and make Biden’s victory a landslide because if Trump comes within cheating distance, he’ll do anything to hold on to power.
“We’ve got to turn out like never before. We cannot leave any doubt in the election,” President Obama said. ” We cannot be complacent. I don’t care about polls. There were a whole bunch of polls last time. It didn’t work out because a whole bunch of people stayed home and got lazy and complacent. Not this time.”
Overall, the speech was more anti-Trump than pro-Biden—and I didn’t mind at all. Lets face it, there is nothing more President Obama can tell us about Joe Biden that we don’t already know. But, there’s no one who gets under Donald Trump’s skin than Barack Hussein Obama.
And that’s why I believe the timing of this speech was so perfect.
It was the night before the final presidential debate where the stakes are even higher for Trump since he backed out of the second debate and he’s 10 points down in the polls. This is his last shot to try and convince voters on the fence to support him. Obama’s speech will throw Trump off his game for tomorrow night and gives him a new target in the days leading up the election. A target that’s way more popular than him nationally and will only continue to hurt his chances with suburban women when he attacks. So, add Obama to the list which includes Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, CNN, Lesley Stahl and science.
The timing is also perfect for the Biden campaign. We are thirteen days from the election. If President Obama had delivered the speech he gave today earlier, it would have been overshadowed. If he gave it closer to the election it would appear as if Biden needed him to get him across the finish line. Biden has proven himself to be capable of doing that on his own.
President Obama’s role at this stage is just to motivate key constituencies like black and young people to show up for Biden.
President Obama’s take down of Donald Trump is the best I’ve seen to date and it wasn’t just because it was well timed and delivered in typical Obama fashion it has alot to do with the person that was delivering it and who was watching.
Now, I ain’t no meteorologist but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that a tweet storm is coming.
