An associate of the far-right group the ‘Proud Boys’ who is under investigation for storming the Capitol on Jan. 6 was arrested in Florida on Saturday after crashing a boat while under the influence.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Paul Rae, 38 crashed the vessel onto a small island in the intercoastal waterway near 182nd Avenue East, 75 ft from the waterline around 10 p.m. Rae and an unnamed passenger were not injured during the crash, but they were visibly intoxicated.


Rae was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail where he was charged with one count of Boating under the Influence. He was released from jail on his own recognizance shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Rae is currently on federal supervised release due to his indictment in the Capitol riot case.


According to the Department of Justice, he faces several charges in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection including, obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting, civil disorder, theft of government property and assaulting police.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
