Jacob Chansley aka the ‘QAnon Shaman’ is willing to testify against Donald Trump in February’s impeachment trial in the Senate, his attorney said.
Chansley’s lawyer Albert Watkins said in a statement on Thursday that it’s important for senators to hear the voice of someone who was incited by Trump and his client is volunteering himself because he felt let down by the former president. He hasn’t spoken to any members of the Senate after he announce that Chansley is willing to testify.
Watkins said Chansley “felt like he was betrayed by the president” after Trump’s refusal to grant him or the other insurrectionists a pardon.
Chansley and at least four other rioters facing federal charges stemming from the Capitol riot, have suggested that they were taking their orders from Donald Trump.
Last week, Watkins said his client regrets “been duped” by Trump and “being in a position where he allowed that duping to put him in a position to make decisions he should not have made.”
In Thursday’s statement Watkins said, “If the pending Article of Impeachment has merit, the voice of Mr. Chansley, and the voice of others in like position, must be heard and believed.”
Trump was impeached by a bipartisan majority in the House for inciting an insurrection. The Senate trial is set to begin on February 8. It’s still not clear whether witnesses will be allowed at the trial.
