Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is canceling his subscription to DirecTV after the satellite service announce plans to drop the pro-Trump channel One America News Network.
“.@DIRECTV is cancelling @OANN so I just cancelled my home Direct TV. Why give money to people who hate us” Paul tweeted on Monday.
DirecTV is OANN’s largest distributor in the U.S. The company said in a statement on Friday that they will not renew their contract with OANN “following a routine internal review.”
The conservative network has been accused of spreading conspiracy theories about COVID and the 2020 election. They are currently being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for $1.6 billion in defamation damages.
Despite these controversies, right wing lawmakers are defending OANN and claiming that DirecTV’s decision is the latest example of big tech trying to silence the voice of conservatives.
Trump went a step further during a rally in Arizona over the weekend and called for a boycott of DirecTV’s parent company AT&T.
“The woke executives, I don’t know what the hell they’re doing. They have so much debt. (DirecTV parent company) AT&T is a company that is in serious trouble. And they need AT&T, and AT&T is saying that they may no longer agree to carry this network that’s doing very well. You know why? Because people told them not to do it,” Trump said.
