Raskin says Trump could spend the "remaining days of his misanthropic life behind bars"

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a member of the House Jan. 6 committee said former President Donald Trump could end up spending the rest of his life behind bars.

The Jan. 6 committee referred Trump on four criminal charges to the Department of Justice last week for his conduct on the day of the Capitol attack.

“I do think it’s very important that we establish that it’s not just foot soldiers but kingpins who are prosecuted,” Raskin said during an appearance on Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast.

“There’s just deep culpability from the very beginning in everything that Donald Trump did. I’m very serious about him facing the consequences and paying for the cost of his action. He could spend the remaining days of his misanthropic life behind bars, presumably with Secret Service agents,” Raskin added.

The Jan. 6 committee’s criminal referrals accuse Trump of obstructing an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the government, making knowingly and willfully materially false statements to the federal government, and inciting or assisting an insurrection.

Trump, meanwhile, has maintained his innocence and accused the Jan. 6 committee of going after him for political reasons.
