Reacher star Alan Ritchson slammed Donald Trump and the Christians who support him in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Ritchson, who is a Christian, told the outlet that he was worried that speaking so openly about religion and faith would negatively affect his career in Hollywood, but decided to do it anyway.
“I’m a Christian quite simply because of what Jesus calls us to do,” he said. “Love other people until death. It doesn’t mean we’re all to be hung on a cross, but how can I suffer for you? That is a beautiful thing.”
But, Ritchson said that message is being corrupted by today’s political climate mainly because of Donald Trump.
“Christians today have become the most vitriolic tribe. It is so antithetical to what Jesus was calling us to be and to do,” Ritchson said, adding “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”
Ritchson also condemned the Catholic church, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s worth saying that the atrocities that are happening in the church that are being actively covered up, even to this day with people not being held accountable, is repulsive. I can’t for one second support the Catholic Church while there are still cardinals, bishops and priests being passed around with known pedophilic tendencies.”
A jury last year found Trump liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in a department store in 1996.
Judge Lewis Kaplan later clarified that Trump raped Carroll in a ruling denying the former president’s request for a new trial.
“The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped’ within the meaning of the New York Penal Law does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,’” Kaplan wrote. “Indeed, as the evidence at trial recounted below makes clear, the jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”
