Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was ridiculed on social media on Wednesday after ranting about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “gazpacho police” controlling the Capitol.
Greene was apparently mixing up gazpacho, the chilled soup with the Gestapo, the brutal Nazi-era secret police in Germany.
“Not only do we have the DC jail which is the DC gulag, but now we have Nancy Pelosi’s gazpacho police spying on members of Congress, spying on the legislative work that we do, spying on our staff and spying on American citizens,” she said.
Greene has a history of making Nazi comparisons and spreading misinformation. In this case, she was commenting on Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) who accused Capitol Police of investigating his office last year. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger denied Nehls’ claim.
