Republican lawmakers were chased out of their own press conference at the Department of Justice on Tuesday to discuss prosecutions of individuals involved in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Republican Representatives Matt Gaetz (FL) , Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Louis Gohmert (Texas) and Paul Gosar (Ariz.) were interrupted throughout the news conference by an individual blowing a whistle.
At one point Greene was forced to address the person blowing whistle.
“To the guy that’s blowing the whistle, we are not deterred,” Greene said. “So anyone that’s here and being an activist and yelling today, here’s the statement that I need everyone to understand. We will not back down, we will not stop asking questions, we are looking for the truth.”
But the crowd holding banners that read “Pedophile Trump,” “Traitors & Rapists: Sit Down,” and “Jan. 6th was an inside job,” would not back down either and the lawmakers were forced to end the press conference.
As they flee, one woman was seen chasing Rep. Gaetz and asking him repeatedly, “are you a pedophile?”
The lawmakers’ press conference came the same day that the House Select Committee began their investigation into the Capitol riot with powerful testimony from four police officers. More than 500 arrests were made so far in connection with the deadly riot.
