Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb) blasted Donald Trump’s latest round of pardons on Wednesday night calling them “rotten to the core.”
The statement from Sasse’s office specifically mentioned Roger Stone and Paul Manafort, saying both men “flagrantly and repeatedly violated the law and harmed Americans” before a terse one line quote from the senator, “This is rotten to the core.”

On Wednesday night, Trump announced a wave of new pardons, including his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and longtime ally Roger Stone both of whom were indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller, went to trial and were convicted by juries of multiple crimes.
Trump also pardoned Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Charles Kushner pleaded guilty to 16 counts of tax evasion, one count of retaliating against a federal witness — his brother-in-law — and another count of lying to the Federal Election Commission.

Then District Attorney for New Jersey former Gov. Chris Christie who prosecuted Kushner called what he did “one of the most loathsome and disgusting crimes” he ever prosecuted as US District Attorney.
Sen. Sasse is one of the very Republican senators to speak out against Donald Trump. Weeks before the election he criticize the outgoing president for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic which prompted Donald Trump to attack him in a series of tweets.
Sasse was re-elected to the Senate while Trump suffered a landslide defeat.
