Republican senate candidate says ‘bad guys’ won WWII

Minnesota Republican senate candidate Royce White Is facing criticism after a post resurfaced online in which he claimed that the “bad guys” won World War II.

“It dawned on me today … The bad guys won in WWII. There were no ‘good guys’ in that war. The controlling interests had a jump ball. If you look closely, you see the link between liberalism and communism in the Allied forces,” White wrote in the post unearthed by the Heartland Signal.

Several X users criticized White for the post, including VoteVets, a progressive non profit representing military veterans and families.

“This isn’t just bizarre—it’s reprehensible,” the group wrote in response to White’s post. “His unhinged rants and attacks on his own party show exactly why the GOP’s candidate problem is a threat to us all.”

Still, White doubled down when reached for comment.

“I said what I said, I said the bad guys won in World War II and they did win,” White told USA TODAY. “If people interpret that as me saying that the Allied forces defeating the Axis powers makes them the bad guys in the equation, that’s just stupid.”

He added that when he used the term ‘bad guys,’ he means “those who benefited from World War II without fighting in it—people who funded the wars, gained political power or institutional prominence.”

“I’m talking about entities like the United Nations, which I’m not the first to criticize, and organizations like the IMF and the World Bank,” he continued. “The crony capitalism that spread globally after the war—yes, they won World War II.”

White, A former NBA player, has a history of making controversial comments. In an interview with Steve Bannon last year he said “women have become too mouthy” and referred to several women, including politicians and journalists, as “cunt.”

He is also accused of using campaign funds from his failed 2022 congressional bid to cover personal expenses including $1,200 spent at a Florida strip club and payments for fitness clubs, cosmetics, clothing, entertainment among others. In June, White was relentlessly mocked online after mistaking a map of drinking fountains in Minneapolis for a map showing “out of control ” crime in the city.

White is trying to unseat incumbent Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar who is seeking a fourth term in office. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the race as ‘solid Democratic.’
