Republican senator torches Ken Paxton after he criticized foreign aid bill: "Your criminal defense lawyers are calling"

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) slammed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday after he criticized him for supporting a bipartisan foreign aid package offering assistance for Ukraine and Israel.

The senate passed the legislation early Tuesday morning on a 70-29. Cornyn was among the 22 Senate Republicans who supported the package.

“This is a question all Texans should be asking. Unbelievable that @JohnCornyn would stay up all night to defend other countries borders, but not America,” Paxton wrote on X/Twitter in response to a user asking when was the last time Cornyn “stayed up all night fighting for our border?”

Cornyn fired back at Paxton, telling him he’s focused on the wrong things.

“Ken, your criminal defense lawyers are calling to suggest you spend less time pushing Russian propaganda and more time defending longstanding felony charges against you in Houston, as well as ongoing federal grand jury proceedings in San Antonio that will probably result in further criminal charges,” Cornyn responded.

Paxton faces a slew of legal problems including felony security fraud charges dating back to 2015. He is also under investigation by federal authorities for alleged corruption and bribery after staffers accused him of breaking the law to help a wealthy donor.

He was acquitted by the Republican-controlled Texas senate last year during an impeachment trial over accusations of corruption and bribery.
