Republicans win control of the US House of Representatives

Republicans retook the majority in the House one week after a disappointing election night where the anticipated ‘red wave’ failed to materialize.

McCarthy won the Republican party’s nomination for Speaker on a 118-31 vote on a secret ballot vote on Tuesday. However, some members of the Republican conference believe he does not have the 218 votes needed to become Speaker on Jan. 3 when the full House votes.
