Anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist and Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. praised Donald Trump’s debating skills on Friday saying the former president is the best debater since Abraham Lincoln.
Kennedy, a long shot candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, is urging Biden to debate him in preparation for the upcoming presidential debates in 2024 with the Republican nominee.
“We’re gonna try to get the president to debate, we think it’s really important. It is important for the Democratic party because ultimately the president will have to debate a Republican, and likely, we don’t know, but it’s gonna be Trump,” Kennedy told Fox News.
“Trump is probably the most successful debater in this country since Lincoln-Douglas in the way he dispatched 16 Republican opponents, one after the other, in 2016, it was really quite extraordinary,” he added.
Biden and his team have ignored requests from Kennedy for a debate mainly because the president has a more than 50 point lead over Kennedy and a debate would only elevate the long shot candidate.
Trump has also shown no interest in debating his GOP primary opponents.
“At the moment, President Trump has indicated that he’s unlikely to participate, at least in the first two debates. He’s up by 30, 40, and even new polling shows he’s up by almost 50 percent in certain places. It really wouldn’t make much sense for him to go and debate right now with a bunch of folks who are down at three, four and five percent,” said Trump advisor Jason Miller.
“So ultimately, President Trump will make a decision as we get closer. He has not said anything definitive, one way or the other. I’m not expecting him to participate, though,” Miller said.
