The Republican National Committee will move part of its spring donor retreat to Mar-a-Lago, and they’ve tapped Donald Trump to be a headliner at the event.
According to the Washington Post, most of the April 11-19 retreat, will take place at a nearby luxury hotel. But the RNC plans to hold a Saturday evening dinner at Mar-a-Lago to accommodate Trump.
Trump is set to benefit from the move as the RNC will pay him for use of Mar-a-Lago and for the dinner that will be served.
This news comes after Politico reported on Saturday that Trump sent ‘cease and desist’ letters to the three largest fundraising entities for the Republican Party — the Republican National Conference (RNC), National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)— to stop them from using his name and likeness in their fundraising efforts.
The RNC dismissed those demands on Monday, arguing in a letter to the top lawyer for Trump’s leadership PAC Save America that the party has “a right to refer to public figures as it engages in core, First Amendment-protected political speech, and it will continue to do so in pursuit of these common goals.”
