Roy Blunt won't run for reelection in 2022.

Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, announced on Monday that he will not be seeking re-election in 2022.

“In every job Missourians have allowed me to have, I’ve tried to do my best. In almost 12,000 votes in the Congress, I’m sure I wasn’t right every time, but you really make that decision based on the information you have at the time,” Blunt said in a video message. “After 14 general election victories — three to county office, seven to the United States House of Representatives, and four statewide elections — I won’t be a candidate for reelection to the United States Senate next year.”

Blunt is the fifth GOP senator to announce they won’t be seeking re-election.

Sens. Pat Toomey (Pa.), Rob Portman (Ohio) and Richard Shelby (Ala.) have all announced that they will retire at the end of their current term. Sen. Richard Burr (N.C.) has said he won’t run for reelection.

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson also recently told reporters that leaving office is “probably my preference now.” While 87-year-old Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley said he will make a decision this fall about running for re-election.

20 of the 34 seats up for grabs in 2022 are held by Republicans. To regain a majority in the upper chamber, they would have to win 21 seats.
