Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is undergoing chemotherapy to treat a recurrence of cancer.
The 87-year-old judge said in statement that she began a course of chemotherapy in May after a routine scan followed by a biopsy showed lesions on her liver. The current treatment course is yielding positive results as her most recent scan on July 7 showed a “significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease.”
Earlier this week, Justice Ginsburg underwent an endoscopic procedure at John’s Hopkins Hospital to clean a bile duct stent. In her statement today she said her recent hospitalizations were unrelated to the cancer recurrence.
She plans to continue this treatment regimen and will remain on the Supreme Court.
“I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. I remain fully able to do that,” she said.
