Donald Trump’s former communications director, Anthony Scaramucci said the former president knows exactly what he’s doing with his use of phrases that are similar to Adolf Hitler.
“Listen, it’s a total dog whistle for him,” Scaramucci told CNN. “He puts things out there, sort of with a forked tongue. He’ll say one thing and say, ‘Oh geez, I didn’t realize that that was from that.’ But he does know that it’s from that. He knows exactly what he’s doing, it is very premeditated, and he always gives that forked tongue spiel to somebody else later on after he has dropped the bomb.”
Trump has been criticized for recent comments about immigrants “poisoning the blood” of the country, which was a phrase Hitler used in his manifesto Mein Kampf to criticize immigration and race mixing.
Trump claimed in an interview that he “knows nothing about Hitler. I’m not a student of Hitler. I never read his works.”
Scaramucci agrees that Trump has likely never read Hitler’s book and suggested that someone on his campaign wrote Hitler’s quote into his speech on purpose.
“I do believe him that he has not read Mein Kampf, okay, because I don’t think this guy’s ever read a book,” Scaramucci said. “The joke on the campaign is that he’s written more books than he read. So I’m sure he didn’t read Mein Kampf, but he knows about Mein Kampf.”
“He knows that this is a dog whistle, he knows he has a base, some of them of which are white supremacists, some of them are actually very good people,” Scaramucci added.
