Schiff slams DeSantis' "cowardly" indictment comments

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for comments he made after a Manhattan grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump last week, Politico reports.

DeSantis, who is expected to enter the 2024 presidential race, criticized the indictment, calling it “un-American,” and said Florida “will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda.”

During an interview Sunday on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki”, Schiff called DeSantis’ comments “cowardly.”

“He certainly knows better about the law. He knows what his obligation is to extradite someone who is accused of crime in another state. He’s not a stupid person and he understands this very well,” Schiff said.  “This is kind of a cowardly action by Ron DeSantis to try to compete with Donald Trump on Trump’s own turf.”

Trump, who announced his third bid for the presidency last November, was indicted on Thursday in connection with a hush money payment he authorized to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election.

Polls show that DeSantis is Trump’s biggest obstacle to securing the GOP nomination for president in 2024.

Schiff, meanwhile has launched a bid to replace retiring Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein in California.
