Georgia Sen. David Perdue announce on Thursday that he will be going into quarantine with less than a week to go before the crucial Senate runoff election.

“This morning, Senator Perdue was notified that he came into close contact with someone on the campaign who tested positive for Covid-19,” the campaign said in a statement. “The Senator and his wife have been tested regularly throughout the campaign, and the team will continue to follow CDC guidelines.”

The statement did not say how long Perdue will be in quarantine but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends 14 days. This means the incumbent senator will be off the campaign trail in the crucial last 5 days of the election cycle.

Perdue is facing Democrat Jon Ossoff in one of the crucial January matchups in the state that will determine which party controls the Senate. The other Georgia senator Kelly Loeffler is up against Rev. Raphael Warnock.

Early voting turnout in Georgia so far has already set records and it is favoring Democrats, as expected. Republicans are hoping for a massive turnout on election day to close the gap.
