Sen. Mitt Romney booed at Utah GOP convention.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) was booed and called a “traitor” at his state’s Republican convention on Saturday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Republican party 2012 nominee for president was greeted with boos when he took to the stage before the mostly maskless crowd of more than 2,100 Republican delegates packed into the Maverik Center on Saturday for the party’s state convention.

“Aren’t you embarrassed?” Romney asked the crowd. “I’m a man who says what he means, and you know I was not a fan of our last president’s character issues,” he added as the crowd tried tried to drown out his words with more boos and accusations of being a “traitor” and “communist.”

“You can boo all you like,” Romney said. “I’ve been a Republican all of my life. My dad was the governor of Michigan and I was the Republican nominee for president in 2012.”

The boos died down after Derek Brown, the party’s outgoing chairman urged the crowd to show Romney some respect.

The other Republican senator from Utah, Mike Lee, a close ally of Donald Trump got a standing ovation as he took to the podium.
