Republican Sen. Rick Scott is on vacation in Europe after he criticized President Joe Biden for vacationing in Delaware.
According to Axios, the Florida senator is spending part of his congressional recess on a luxury yacht in Italy.
This could not have come at a worst time for Scott who is also the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He has been facing criticism from Republicans for his mismanagement of the committee’s spending this cycle and for failing to recruit strong candidates for the midterms.
Republican candidates in key swing states have been struggling in the polls against their Democratic rivals in what should have been a favorable election cycle for the GOP.
Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania, JD Vance in Ohio, Herschel Walker in Georgia and Blake Masters in Arizona are all trailing their Democratic opponents in FiveThirtyEight average of polls.
Scott’s vacation in Italy also comes one day after he criticized President Biden for vacationing in Delaware.
“Another week of President Biden vacationing in Delaware vs. working at the White House. If he loves to travel so much, I’ve got some suggestions as to where he should go next,” Scott wrote on Twitter with a poll showing ‘The Southern Border’ as all three options.
Chris Hartline, a spokesperson for the NRSC told Axios that Scott, “took a couple days to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife and family – a trip that was planned more than a year ago.”
