Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) singled out Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (R) over his refusal to wear a mask while in the Senate chamber calling him a “lunatic”.
Brown was asked about senators who don’t wear a mask while he was visiting a mass vaccination site in Columbus on Tuesday.
“One of them that’s an M.D., isn’t, but he’s kind of a lunatic,” Brown said according to the Columbus Dispatch. “He thinks he wants to be different but it doesn’t serve the public interest.”
Paul responded to Brown’s comments through a spokesperson, saying: “Vaccine deniers, who dispute immunity after natural infection and after vaccination, should refrain from name-calling and perhaps try to get informed.”
Brown is not a vaccine denier. He has been fully vaccinated against COVID and has urged everyone to get the vaccine
This is not the first time Brown has called out Paul for refusing to wear a mask.
Sen. Brown objected to a request from Paul on the Senate floor in February and ask him to respect his colleagues by putting on a mask.
“I would like to ask Senator Paul, in front of everybody, to start wearing a mask on the Senate floor like the entire staff does all the time,” Sen. Brown said.
“I appreciate now the presiding officer wearing a mask. But I wish Sen. Paul would show respect to his colleagues to wear a mask when he’s on the Senate floor walking around and speaking,” Brown added
