A senior House Democrat compared Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) popularity to that of historically unpopular billionaire Elon Musk and a deadly virus.
“His popularity is hovering somewhere between Elon Musk and the Ebola virus,” an unnamed senior Democrat told Axios about House Democrats’ mood in regards to the Senate Democratic leader.
House Democrats frustration and anger towards Schumer reached a boiling point last week after they watched him completely surrender to Trump in a shutdown fight by voting to allow the passage of a partisan Republican bill to fund the government that empowers Musk to continue his raid of the federal government.
House Democrats had voted almost unanimously against the measure.
Behind closed doors several House Democrats—including moderates— are urging Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to primary Schumer in 2028.
“From the threads I am on, [people are] pissed off … and not just the typical lefties,” one House Democrat told Axios.
“There were many battleground Dems in the House … that were uncomfortable, semi-uncomfortable, with the vote,” said another House Democrat. “The Senate left the House at the altar.”
