Seven people, including the suspect, are dead following a mass shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia on Tuesday.
Officers responded to an active threat situation at the Walmart at 10:12 p.m. local time.
“Over the course of the next 30, 45 minutes, we were able to find multiple fatalities and multiple injured parties,”Chesapeake police spokesperson Leo Kosinski told reporters.
It is believed that the shooter was an employee or former employee of the store who opened fire in the employees break room before turning the weapon on himself, a law enforcement source told CNN.
“We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store, We’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates,” Walmart said in a statement.
