Speaker at Trump rally makes racist comments about Latino and Black people and called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage”

A pro-Trump comedian opened the Republican presidential nominee’s rally at Madison Square Garden by making racist remarks about Latinos and Black people and referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”

Tony Hinchcliffe, who goes by the stage name ‘Kill Tony,’ asked attendees “where are my proud Latinos at tonight?” before launching into series of anti-immigrant remarks that drew some groans even from the pro-Trump audience.

“You guys see what I mean? It’s wide open; there’s so many of them,” he said, referring to the southern border.

“These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do,” Hinchcliffe said. “There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country.”

Moments later, Hinchcliffe compared Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, to waste in the ocean.

“There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” he said.

Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state, is home to the third largest Puerto Rican diaspora in the country.

Hinchcliffe also told a racist joke about one of his Black “buddies” and how they “carved watermelons” together for Halloween.

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, were doing live coverage of the rally, and immediately criticized Hinchcliffe for his comments.

Puerto Ricans across the country should “see this clip,” Ocasio-Cortez said adding, “When you have some a-hole calling Puerto Rico ‘floating garbage,’ know that that’s what they think about you. It’s what they think about anyone who makes less money than them.”

“Who is that jack-wad? Who is that guy?” Walz asked. “People in Puerto Rico are citizens. They pay tax and they serve in the military at almost a higher rate than anybody else.”

Hinchcliffe defended himself in a post on X, dismissing his critics as people who lack a sense of humor.

“Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his ‘busy schedule’ to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist,” he added, “I love Puerto Rico and vacation there.”
