Speaker Pelosi is considering Adam Kinzinger for select committee to investigate Jan. 6.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is reportedly considering appointing Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger (Illinois) to the select committee to investigate the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot, sources tell CNN.

When asked at a press conference on Thursday about selecting more Republicans for the panel, Pelosi said “we’ll see.”

“I mean, there are some members that would like to be on it,” she added. “But, we’ll see.”

Mississippi congressman, and chairman of the committee Rep. Bennie Thompson also confirm to CNN that the idea of adding Kinzinger to the committee “has been discussed” and that he would be a “welcome addition”.

News of Speaker Pelosi considering appointing another Republican to the select committee comes one day after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) pulled all his GOP picks from the panel.

McCarthy pulled his five picks after Pelosi rejected two of the five, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) The congressmen voted to overturn the results of the election and released statements after their appointment to the committee signalling their intent to not take the investigation seriously.

Kinzinger was one of only ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection after the riot.

Kinzinger would be the second Republican on the committee if approved by Pelosi. He would join Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo) who was removed from GOP House leadership for criticizing Donald Trump.
