A businessman in Springfield, Ohio received death threats and is labeled a traitor for defending Haitian migrants who work at his establishment.
Earlier this month Jamie McGregor, the owner of McGregor Metal, told the New York Times that he felt compelled to speak up and defend the Haitian migrants that make up about 10% of his team, amid racist rumors promoted by Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) alleging that Haitian immigrants in the city were killing and eating residents’ pets.
“They come to work every day. They don’t cause drama. They’re on time,” he said.
Since then, McGregor said he has received death threats, his company was forced into a lockdown and posters were put up around town branding him a traitor for hiring Haitian immigrants.
“Why are you importing Third World savages who eat animals and giving them jobs over United States citizens?” one message left on the company voice mail said, according to The Times.
“The owner of McGregor Metal can take a bullet to the skull and that would be 100 percent justified,” another said.
McGregor said he was advised by the FBI, whose agents visited his family home on Sept. 12, to take the threats seriously and increase security at his home and business.
The businessman, a lifelong Republican who voted for Trump twice, said he has since purchased a gun after vowing never to do so
McGregor has also taken additional steps for his safety including keeping his blinds shut, varying his driving routes, locking his business doors and wearing gloves when opening his mail.
“I have struggled with the fact that now we’re going to have firearms in our house — like, what the hell?” he said.
In the last month, schools, hospitals and government buildings in Springfield have been forced into lockdowns due to bomb threats brought on by racist lies about Haitian immigrants promoted by some Republicans.
