Mark McCloskey, the St. Louis lawyer who went viral last year for pointing a gun at Black Lives Matter protesters marching past his mansion, is considering a run for Senate.
“I can confirm that it’s a consideration, yes,” McCloskey told Politico Tuesday evening about a possible run for Senate.
McCloskey and his wife Patricia rose to national prominence last year when they were seen on their lawn waving guns at the BLM protesters marching past their mansion on their way to the home of then-St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. The couple was later indicted on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and evidence tampering.
Trump defended them at the time saying it was “disgraceful” that they were charged.
They were so popular among the Republican base that they were given a speaking role at party’s convention last year.
McCloskey, a wealthy personal-injury lawyer, said that he had no timeline for making a decision about whether to enter the race for the seat from which Republican Sen. Roy Blunt is retiring. This past weekend, McCloskey spoke at a Jackson County GOP dinner, which also drew former Gov. Eric Greitens and state Attorney General Eric Schmitt, both of whom have announced their candidacies, Politico noted.
