Statement from local police does not match Hawley's claim that "Antifa scumbags" threatened his family and vandalized his home.

Missouri senator leading an effort to overturn the results of the election in Congress Josh Hawley, claimed on Twitter Monday night that “Antifa scumbags” threaten his family and vandalized his home during a protest, but his story does not match with police statements.

The group which organized the protest, Shutdown DC posted a video of the protest which they called a ‘vigil for democracy’.

The protest had a little more than a dozen people who mostly remained on the street. At one point three protesters left a pocket copy of the Constitution at Hawley’s front door. Activists also wrote in chalk on the sidewalk. There was no damage to his Vienna, Va. home.

But, Hawley took to Twitter on Monday night to write this:

“Tonight while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel. They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door. Let me be clear: My family & I will not be intimidated by leftwing violence.”

Officers responded to the scene on Monday night and informed the protesters that they were committing three violations, Officer Juan Vazquez, a spokesman for the Vienna police said, according the Kansas City Star News.

The group violated ordinances that limit noise and bar writing in chalk on a public sidewalk also, Virginia law prohibits protesting outside a private residence.

“It was a minor event. Basically we got a call saying there was some sort of protest in front of a residence in our town… The group was maybe 15 to 20 people,” Vazquez said.

Despite Hawley’s tweets taking issue with the group calling it a ‘vigil’ after properties were vandalized, Officer Vazquez said there was no report from residents about property damage.

“We don’t know of any property that was damaged,” he said. “They didn’t report it at the time we went there.”
