Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon suggested Tuesday that children should be armed with guns in schools to fight off bullies.
Bannon made the comment during an episode of his ‘War Room’ podcast broadcast from Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona.
“We should get kids off of social media and start teaching them the proper use of guns, how to defend themselves, their own self defense, should we not make that an integrated part of the education so they’re not picked on or not threatened? And certainly not scared,” Bannon said, in a clip posted by Media Matters.
Bannon’s comments drew applause from the audience.
Republicans have argued that the solution to gun violence in schools is to bring more guns into schools, but such discussions usually surround arming teachers– not kids.
In fact, Ohio’s Republican governor Mike DeWine signed a legislation into law last year allowing teachers to carry guns in class after just 24 hours of training.
