Swalwell blasts McCarthy for giving Capitol Police chicken.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) blasted Kevin McCarthy after the House Minority Leader sent Capitol Police officers bags of Chick-Fil-A fried chicken on Tuesday.

“Tons of USCP officers texting me this in disbelief. @GOPLeader McCarthy dishonors the police but sends them…chicken. Fitting,” Swalwell wrote in response to a Tweet from David Laufman, a lawyer who represented two Capitol Police officers at the House select committee’s first hearing in July.

Laufman tweeted a photo on Tuesday of bags of Chick-fil-A fried chicken that McCarthy sent to Capitol Police officers.

⁦”@GOPLeader⁩ has sent bags of fried chicken to ⁦@CapitolPolice⁩ — am sure it’s delicious, but would prefer support for democracy and the rule of law if you’re not tapped out,” Laufman tweeted.

The photo included a note from McCarthy that read “Thank you for all you do!”

According to Politico, some of the officers chose not to eat the chicken and expressed disappointment that McCarthy would support them privately with chicken and not publicly through legislation.

McCarthy opposed a bipartisan 9/11 style committee to investigate the Jan.6 attack k and later pulled all five of his recommendation from a House select Committee investigating the riot. It is the same committee McCarthy and other member of his caucus are trying to obstruct now by threatening telecom companies to not release the phone records of lawmakers involved in the ‘Stop the Steal’ to the select committee.
