California Rep. Ted Lieu is calling for Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz to be removed from the House Judiciary Committee in light of a new report on a letter written by his former associate Joel Greenberg confessing that he paid underage girls for sex.
“Dear @GOPLeader: Please remove Rep Matt Gaetz from the House Judiciary Committee immediately,” Lieu wrote. “The Committee has jurisdiction over the Department of Justice that is investigating Rep Gaetz, including allegedly for sex crimes with a minor. This is an untenable conflict of interest.”
On Thursday evening, the Daily Beast reported that Gaetz former associate Joel Greenberg confessed in a letter seeking a pardon from Donald Trump that the congressman repeatedly paid women for sex, including a 17-year-old.
Gaetz is under federal investigation for allegedly violating sex trafficking and prostitution laws. He has not been charged with a crime, and he has denied the allegations against him.
