A hot dog restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee is offering free milkshakes to customers who show proof of a vasectomy, according to Newsweek.
The deal at Daddy’s Dogs restaurant is called ‘Snip for Shakes‘ and customers just need to provide a doctor’s note to qualify.
“The world’s a pretty crazy place right now, but I have a way to make it just a little bit better,” owner Sean “Big Daddy” Porter said in the video promoting the offer. “It’s our Snip for Shake deal. We’re giving away one free milkshake with proof of vasectomy. Just bring a note from your doctor saying you got the snip and we’ll give you any milkshake you want.”
“There’s nothing like an ice-cold milkshake after a vasectomy,” he added.
Porter, who has his own vasectomy years ago, told Newsweek: “It’s a way to put the ball in the guy’s court, and will hopefully also help break the stigma that comes along with men’s health.”
The restaurant, he says has received overwhelmingly positive reviews for the deal and there have been about 25 redemptions so far “with a few folks coming by straight from their doctors.”
The deal was implemented days after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. Tennessee is one of 13 states with a “trigger law” banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy– before many people even know they are pregnant.
Since Roe was struck down there has been an increased interest in vasectomies, according to the Washington Post. In Nashville, urologist Joseph Pazona said he was flooded with inquiries about the procedure after the Tennessee abortion ban went into effect. He expects that the usual number of vasectomies he performs per month will double. Before the ban he was performing about 50-60 vasectomies per month.
A vasectomy is a safe, affordable and reversible method of male birth control that involves cutting and sealing the tubes that carry sperm to semen. It is an outpatient surgery with a low risk of complications or side effects.
