Seventy House Republicans supported an amendment to cut off all US military aid to Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing war with Russia.
The amendment to the annual defense bill was proposed by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) who has argued against sending additional financial and military aid packages to Ukraine.
“Notwithstanding any provision of this or any other Act, no federal funds may be made available to provide security assistance to Ukraine,” the amendment reads.
The amendment failed on a 358-70 vote.
Gaetz acknowledged during the floor debate before the vote that the amendment will fail, according to Insider.
“My amendment is going to lose overwhelmingly when it is put up for a vote,” said Gaetz. “But the American people will see who wants to represent them, and who wants to represent Crimea.”
