Thousands of Americans have signed petitions to stop the richest man on Earth from returning to the planet after his trip to space next month.
Days after Bezos announce that he and his brother were blasting into space aboard a new rocket developed by his company, space-exploration firm Blue Origin, two petitions were launched to stop the billionaire’s re-entry to Earth, according to Insider.
More than 25,000 people have signed a petition titled: “Do not allow Jeff Bezos to return to Earth.” The petition description says, “Billionaire’s should not exist…on earth, or in space, but should they decide the latter they should stay there.”
Another petition, called “Petition To Not Allow Jeff Bezos Re-Entry To Earth,” has accumulated more than 18,000 signatures.
Bezos, his brother, and the winner of the Blue Origin auction will take an 11-minute flight to the edge of space on July 20. They’ll be strapped into a dome-shaped capsule, which sits on top of the rocket booster, Insider reports.
Once the rocket reaches the Kármán line – an imaginary boundary 62 miles above the Earth’s surface – the capsule will separate from the booster, reenter the atmosphere, and float back down to Earth with the help of parachutes.
