Top House Republican: Trump ‘should stop talking’

House Republican accused House Intel chair Mike Turner of being "reckless" and calls for a formal inquiry.

Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee told Donald Trump to “stop talking” after a Fox News interview that may worsen his legal troubles.

“So, I’m a lawyer. My first thought was, but he should stop talking,” Turner told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday.

In his first interview since he was arraigned on federal charges last week, Trump defended his alleged mishandling of classified documents by saying he had personal items “interspersed” with the documents and never had the time to go through the boxes.

“I had boxes, I wanted to go through the boxes and get all of my personal things out. I don’t want to hand them over to NARA yet, and I was very busy as you’ve sort of seen,” Trump said when asked why he didn’t hand over the documents when he was subpoenaed.

“Before I send boxes over, I have to take all of my things out. These boxes were interspersed with all sorts of things, golf shirts, clothing, pants, shoes, there were many things,” Trump added.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 charges relating to his alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of justice last week.
