MarK Robinson, the Trump-endorsed candidate for governor of North Carolina is under pressure to drop out of the race over a looming devastating report.
According to the Carolina Journal, Robinson is being pressured by staff and members of the Trump campaign to withdraw from the race over the story which the former president campaign says “involves activity on adult websites in 2000s.”
Sources also told the outlet that the Trump campaign is trying to distance themself from Robinson and has privately told him that he is not welcome at rallies for Trump or vice presidential candidate JD Vance.
The move is a stunning reversal from earlier this year where Trump endorsed Robinson at a rally, calling the lieutenant governor “Martin Luther King [Jr.] on steroids,” “better than Martin Luther King,” and even “Martin Luther King times two.”
In a video released on Thursday afternoon, Robinson said he is staying in the race and preemptively denied the allegations in the report. Robinson told his supporters that he was the victim of a smear campaign orchestrated by the media and Democrats.
“The news media is at it again. My opponent is at it again,” he said.
“You know my words,” he continued. “You know my character and you know that I have been completely transparent in this race and before.”
