Donald Trump, who has spent the last six months attacking judges overseeing his multiple civil and criminal cases on Truth Social, is demand that Special Counsel Jack Smith be censured for rebuking Judge Aileen Cannon’s handling of the classified documents case in a court filing.
“Deranged ‘Special’ Counsel Jack Smith, who has a long record of failure as a prosecutor, including a unanimous decision against him in the U.S. Supreme Court, should be sanctioned or censured for the way he is attacking a highly respected Judge, Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over his FAKE Documents Hoax case in Florida,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He continued: “He is a lowlife who is nasty, rude, and condescending, and obviously trying to “play the ref.” He shouldn’t even be allowed to participate in this sham case, where I, unlike Crooked Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and all the rest, come under the Presidential Records Act. I DID NOTHING WRONG, BUT BIDEN DID, AND THEY LET HIM OFF SCOT-FREE. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN, JACK? A TWO TIERED SYSTEM OF JUSTICE. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”
In a court filing on Tuesday Smith said that Cannon had ordered briefings based on a “fundamentally flawed” understanding of the case that has “no basis in law or fact.”
Legal experts say the filing is a sign of Smith’s frustration with Cannon—a Trump appointee— handling of the case after a series of rulings that have prolonged the case.
One former Trump White House lawyer is predicting that the 11th circuit will remove Cannon from the case.
Still Smith’s rebuke of Cannon in a court filing is nothing compared to Trump’s attack on judges and their families on his Truth Social site.
He has called Judge Arthur Engoron, who was overseeing his fraud case in New York, a “rogue judge”, said this wife is a “Trump hating wife” and that she and Engoron’s law clerk had “taken over control of the New York State Witch Hunt Trial aimed at me, my family, and the Republican Party.”
In the hush money criminal trial in New York, Trump is not only going after Judge Juan Merchan, but he has also set his sights on Merchan’s daughter who has nothing to do with the case.
