As the wildfire continues to ravage homes and claim lives in Los Angeles, Donald Trump and Republicans are going to great lengths to politicize the tragedy including citing a nonexistent declaration the president-elect claims would have help contained the fire.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump slammed California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), claiming he made things worse by refusing to sign “the water restoration declaration” to allow more water to flow into the city.
“Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way,” Trump wrote.
But, Newsom’s communications director, Izzy Gordon, told CalMatters that a ‘water restoration declaration’ does not exist.
“There is no such document as the water restoration declaration – that is pure fiction,” Gordon said. “The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need.”
