Donald Trump threatened to send Americans who vandalize Tesla vehicles to prisons in El Salvador as protests spread.
“I look forward to watching the sick terrorist thugs get 20 year jail sentences for what they are doing to Elon Musk and Tesla,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Perhaps they could serve them in the prisons of El Salvador, which have become so recently famous for such lovely conditions!”
The threat comes as Tesla is facing a wave of protests and attacks in which vehicles have been shot and set on fire, due to the company’s CEO Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration.
Three people have been charged so far with arson for Molotov cocktail attacks at Tesla facilities in Colorado, Oregon, and South Carolina.
Trump’s Attorney General Pam Bondi called the attacks and vandalism against Tesla vehicles “nothing short of domestic terrorism” and promised harsh punishments for perpetrators if they are caught.
