Donald Trump is now hawking Bibles for $60 amid mounting legal bills.
Trump announced the move in a post on his Truth Social site Tuesday writing: “Happy Holy Week! Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the USA Bible.”
The ‘God Bless the U.S.A. Bibles’ is inspired by country music star Lee Greenwood, whose song “God Bless the U.S.A.” is ever present at Trump rallies.
In an accompanying video, Trump said: “All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many. It’s my favorite book. I’m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible. We must make America pray again.”
The Bible includes a King James Version translation, copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as a handwritten chorus of Greenwood’s song.
“I want to have a lot of people have it. You have to have it for your heart, for your soul. Many of you have never read them and don’t know the liberties and rights you have as Americans, and how you are being threatened to lose those rights; it’s happening all the time,” Trump said. “It’s a very sad thing that’s going on in our country but we’re going to get it turned around. Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country and I truly believe that we need to bring them back here and we have to bring them back fast. I think it’s one of the biggest problems we have.”
Trump directed his supporters to a website where they can purchase the book for $59.99. The website also describes the book as “the only Bible endorsed by President Trump!” adding that it is “Easy-to-read” with “large print” and a “slim design.”
This latest desperate bid for cash comes as Trump is facing mounting legal bills amid a slew of criminal and civil cases. He has already paid a $92 million bond in connection with a defamation case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll and on Monday the New York Appeals court lowered his $454 million bond in his civil fraud case to $175 million and gave him 10 days to pay.
Trump is also facing 91 criminal charges across four cases. The first criminal trial relating to hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign will begin next month.
