Trump: Mike Waltz “has learned a lesson”

Donald Trump is standing by his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, after a bombshell report that top national security officials texted war plans to a reporter.

On Monday, The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg reported that Trump administration officials accidentally added him to a group text chat about strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

It was Waltz who invited the Goldberg to the group chat with other officials including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

According to Politico, several top officials in the Trump White House want Waltz gone, but the president is standing by him.

“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” Trump told NBC News’ Garrett Haake.

Haake added that Trump dismissed the bombshell report.

“The President told me he believes the story is essentially a non-issue,” Haake wrote on X. “And that Goldberg’s presence on the chat had ‘no impact at all.’ The attacks [on the Houthis], he continued, were ‘perfectly successful.’”
