Donald Trump nominated Herschel Walker, the former football star who he had previously backed for the 2022 Senate race in Georgia, as the U.S. ambassador to The Bahamas.
“A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
He continued: “During my First Term, he served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Herschel has traveled to over 400 Military installations around the World, removing the stigma surrounding mental health.”
Trump endorsed Walker in a 2022 Georgia Senate race to try and unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.). But throughout the campaign he became widely known for gaffes on policy issues and sometimes confusing musings, including one about werewolves and vampires.
He ultimately lost the election.
