Trump now claims he only took empty folders not the classified documents when he left the White House.

Former President Donald Trump is now claiming that he didn’t actually keep the classified documents that were retrieved from Mar-a-Lago last year, just the empty folders the documents were in.

“The Fake News Media & Crooked Democrats (That’s been proven!) keep saying I had a “large number of documents” in order to make the Biden Classified Docs look less significant. When I was in the Oval Office, or elsewhere, & “papers” were distributed to groups of people & me, they would often be in a striped paper folder with “Classified” or “Confidential” or another word on them. When the session was over, they would collect the paper(s), but not the folders, & I saved hundreds of them,” Trump wrote on his social media app Truth Social. “Remember, these were just ordinary, inexpensive folders with various words printed on them, but they were a ‘cool’ keepsake,” he added.

Trump’s latest rant comes after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents after his attorneys found classified files at his former office and Delaware home.

However, there are major differences between the two cases. Biden and his team are cooperating with investigators, while Trump ignore requests from by the National Archives and subpoenas to return the documents for over a year. Also, personal attorneys for Biden have found about 20 documents with classification markings, while 300 classified documents were retrieved from Trump.

On Wednesday Trump suggested that the FBI may have counted the empty folders as classified documents and baselessly accuse agents of “planting” files.

“As President, and based on the Presidential Records Act & Socks Case, I did NOTHING WRONG. JOE DID!,” Trump said.
